Shadowing 1

Yesterday, I attended shadowing class with Dr. Madeleine Vakkur. The lecture subject was about Business Model Generation, the professor distributed handout to all the students regarding the subject that she is going to talk about, then she begun the lecture, at the same time she was using social media and giving life examples of the Business Model Generation such as Apple, Intel, Nokia and etc. These tools are giving more details and clarification to make the subject more clear and understandable. At the end of the lecture she gave a break, after that she asked students to be in a group to do case study about the Business Modeling then to give a presentation about the outcome of their discussion after each group presented their case study she collected them from each group.

My observation comments as follows:

The professor made the objectives of the session clear to the students by giving them handout to illustrate and introduce the topic.

Before started the session she talked about the previous topic and then she set out the structure for today's lecture. Which showed that the planning, organizing and the method were effective and useful learning approach.

The students were invited to participate and to engage by asking them some questions and to give comments, in that way enable the professor to be sure the students understand the material.

The time of the session wasn't rushed, the accomodation was also suitable and appropriate for the students to have deep learning.

The class was well organized and the physical set up of the classroom supports the social interaction for learning.

The students seemed to enjoy the class by interacting and helping each other.

Conclusion:

After all the whole session went very well. Personally, I like the social media, the real life business example and the method she was demonstrating such as:  learning knowledge question, learning knowledge participation and learning knowledge creation.

  1. Hi,
my previous comment disappeared somewhere, so I give this a second try!

I'm glad to hear that you felt this shadowing session was a worthwhile experience. What I warmly appreciate is your effort to tie the session to the theories you had covered with Merja and Katri. In your future reflections you could strengthen the reflective part even more. Hints on that can be found in Merja's material on Reflective Journals.

About Business Model Generator and Business Model Canvas
In case you feel that you could benefit from that approach in your own teaching, I think you might want to get started with Alexander Osterwalder's Sildeshare-presentation and another one which has captured main points of the book. You might also want to embed a video on how to use business model canvas in your post. This is how you do it:

    - in Blogger go to Posts, click Edit under the post you want to edit
    - click at the place where you want to add the video
    - click the black icon next to image-icon on the toolbar
    - click From Youtube
    - write Business model canvas in the search field
    - choose the topmost video and click select

That's it! The video is embedded into your post!
